Here is a partial list of activities, teachings, and events around the mandala to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Chögyam Trungpa's parinirvana

Events at the Seattle Shambhala Center:

Thursday (March 29) -- Open house talk with Jim Jennings, on "the life of Trungpa Rinpoche". 7:30 pm, with sitting and free meditation instruction at 6:30 pm.

Friday and Saturday (March 30 and 31) -- The film Crazy Wisdom, a recently released feature documentary about Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche will be shown, followed by a discussion and reception.

Sunday (April 1) -- Dharma Art Offerings. The entire community is invited to share their performance and other arts offerings to show joy and appreciation for the blessings we have been given by the Vidyadhara, including the Shambhala path.

Wednesday (April 4) -- Sadhana of Mahamudra feast with Shastri Matthew Lyon. is a celebratory practice of the Sadhana of Mahamudra text, with food and beverages.

Glimpses of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's Life and Legacy in Tibet, a film about Trungpa Rinpoche's early life. In conjunction with the commemoration of Trungpa Rinpoche's parinirvana, and as part of the effort to support the new shedra at Trungpa Rinpoche's monastery — Surmang Dutsi Til — the Konchok Foundation is releasing a new DVD as a donation gift. The 42 minute film includes the first video and photos of Trungpa Rinpoche's birthplace at Geje. Karma Senge Rinpoche provides an on-location explanation of the Vidyadhara's terma sites at Kyere. There are excerpts of interviews with several people who knew him in Tibet, including his brother Damcho Tenphel Rinpoche and Chime Palmo, the consort of Khenpo Gangshar. The release date is March 22. The DVD is available at

On April 4th it will be twenty-five years since the passing of Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche into Parinirvana. A series of events and practices in Boulder will commemorate this 25th Anniversary. There will be exhibits and installations at the Shambhala Center from March 31-April 4. There will also be presentations and demonstrations of Shambhala arts, and ongoing videos of the Vidyadhara. Please join us to recall the power, presence, practice, and teachings of this Mahasiddha who changed so many of our lives.

Sadhana of Mahamudra feast in Boulder organized by students of Chögyam Trungpa

On Wednesday, April 4th, the 25th anniversary day of the parinirvana (passing) of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a group of his students will be hosting a Sadhana of Mahamudra feast practice at 4665 Nautilus Ct. South, Suite 100, Boulder, at 6pm. From 63rd and Jay go north on 63rd then right on Nautilus Ct. and right on Nautilus Ct. South.

The practice of the Sadhana of Mahamudra will include a short feast section. We will screen a short video of Trungpa Rinpoche during the feast section, followed by closing the formal practice. We will then convene a potluck social gathering as an informal continuation of the feast celebration. Everyone is invited to bring something to eat, drink (alcoholic or otherwise) or both. To cover the costs of renting the hall for our use there is a requested $10 donation. You are cordially invited to join in this celebration of the life, teachings, and enduring presence of Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

You are welcome to bring any friends and acquaintances you might like to extend this invitation to. Please bring a meditation cushion (chairs are provided) and a copy of the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

Previously announced

Shambhala International has announced that Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will bestow the Sadhana of Mahamudra abhisheka in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 1, 2012. This ceremony will be a special occasion for practitioners to receive the blessing empowerment of the Sadhana as part of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the parinirvana of Chögyam Trungpa. First bestowed by the current Sakyong in 1993 and several times subsequently at Vajrayana Seminary, this will be the first time in many years that the sangha will have an opportunity to receive this abhisheka. Chögyam Trungpa Legacy Project under the direction of Carolyn Gimian has mounted an exhibit entitled: GREAT EASTERN SUN: The Shambhala Community in Nova Scotia, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. The exhibit, which includes a feast of CTR-related objects and photos (watch for an upcoming Chronicles article for the details), opened to the public on February 9, and runs through April 21st. An opening reception will be held on February 23rd at 5:30 pm. A number of special events are planned around the exhibit at Pier 21 during this time. Details to be posted here as available.

Shambhala Sun Magazine is publishing a series of articles about or by Chögyam Trungpa in each of its 2012 issues. The January Sun featured Barry Boyce's survey of Chögyam Trungpa's teachings. The March issue (currently on newsstands) presents A Meditation Instruction by Chögyam Trungpa. Each of the remaining issues in 2012, will include articles by CTR.

Dharma Ocean Foundation is hosting a six-part interactive video event entitled When Lightning Strikes: The Living Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, starting February 15 and continuing with a session once a week through March 21, 8-9 ET. In these online sessions, Dr. Reggie Ray will explore the Vidyadhara's life and teachings through anecdotes, stories, dharma teachings, guided meditations, and interactive discussions. The Chögyam Trungpa Legacy Project and the Halifax Shambhala community are sponsoring a public forum at Pier 21 on March 31st, 12:30 -- 5:00 PM, entitled: Nova Scotia: Our Strength/Our Future. The event is free.
