Petition of gratitude to Dharma translators

Please take note of this petition to thank translators around the world who continue the monumental task of rendering the Dharma into English.

Please follow this link to add your name to the letter below.

Dear Dharma Translators,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you are doing to translate and transmit the Dharma to westerners. Without you, we couldn't practice or study the Dharma, so we are hugely grateful for your incredible gift to us! May your current deliberations in Bir, India, bring the Buddha's words and teachings to countless beings.

With warmest wishes for a very successful gathering,

The names from this petition will be read aloud at the Translating the Words of the Buddha Conference, hosted by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Khyentse Foundation, and chaired by the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. The conference begins on March 15th at Deer Park Institute in Bir, India. The goal is to gather over 10,000 names.

Selected devotional poems of Chogyam Trungpa

Reading by David Rome

David Rome

David Rome served for many years as Trungpa Rinpoche's personal secretary, and as one of his first English language editors. When Rinpoche's poetry was read aloud in public venues or small gatherings, it was more often than not, David who was called upon to read. For the hundreds of students who heard these readings, David Rome is the voice of Trungpa Rinpoche's poetry. David, who is also the editor of Timely Rain, is currently a Senior Fellow at Garrison Institute.

We are honored to present David Rome reading select devotional poems by Chogyam Trungpa for Milarepa Day. These poems include, The Doha of Confidence from Rain of Wisdom, and Supplication to the Emperor and A Heart Lost and Discovered, both from Timely Rain. © Diana Judith Mukpo. Used here by arrangement with Diana J. Mukpo and Shambhala Publications, Inc.

Milarepa Day is a celebration of devotion to the Kagyu lineage. It is marked each year on the anniversary of Milarepa's parinirvana by reading the Kagyü Gurtso (a collection of dohas or songs of realization) aloud.

Translating the Rain of Wisdom

Robin Kornman talks about this historic translation effort. Video by Bill Hebbert. First posted on the Chronicles in March 2005.

One of the first translation projects that Chögyam Trungpa undertook in the mid-1970s with his newly formed group of student translators (later known as the Nalanda Translation Committee), was the Kagyü Gurtso. Their translation was published in 1980 as The Rain of Wisdom by Shambhala Publications, Inc.
